The city of Šibenik opens to the sea through a narrow natural channel, the St Anthony Channel, which links it to the archipelago. At its mouth stands St Nicholas Fortress, a 16th-century Venetian fortification on the UNESCO list. This kayak route explores it from the water.
What you do
- Start from a beach near the channel after a technique briefing.
- Guided paddle through the channel, past pine woods and old fortifications.
- View of St Nicholas Fortress from sea level.
- Stops to swim and snorkel in quiet coves.
- Optionally, a route past the old town and St James’s Cathedral from the water.
Who it is for
Beginners and families with children from 8 years. The kayaks are stable and the channel is almost always sheltered from the wind. You must be able to swim.
What to bring
- Swimwear, cap, sunscreen and water.
- Shoes that can get wet.
Best time to go
May to September. Note: the channel is used by boats, so the route is always guided and keeps to the edges. The sunset departure is especially beautiful, with golden light on the fortress walls and a calmer sea for the paddle back.
