The Falls of Baleine, at the northern tip of St Vincent, is a waterfall of about 20 metres dropping into a freshwater pool below La Soufrière volcano. It can only be reached by sea, which makes the journey part of the experience.
The day
- Cruise along the leeward coast, often with dolphin sightings.
- Pass Wallilabou Bay, a Pirates of the Caribbean film set.
- Land and take a short river walk to the falls; swim in the pool.
- Snorkel on the way back at a reef such as Petit Byahaut or Indian Bay.
Who it is for
Families and active travelers. The landing may be on a beach with some surf and the path is rocky, so it is not suitable for reduced mobility.
What to bring
- Water shoes or strapped sandals.
- Swimwear, towel and a dry bag.
- Mosquito repellent.
Best time
December to June. After heavy rain the falls are more spectacular, but access may close if the river is high.
Good to know
It is a great option if your flight lands in St Vincent a day before boarding. The leeward coast is sheltered from the trade wind, so the ride is usually comfortable.
Included
- Boat with captain and guide
- Site entry
- Snorkel gear
- Light lunch and drinks
