The PADI Open Water Diver is the most recognised scuba certification in the world: it lets you dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres in any country. Tenerife is ideal for it, with mild water all year, good visibility and calm, sheltered sites in the south of the island.
How the course works
- Online theory (eLearning) before you arrive or at the centre.
- Confined water sessions to practise the core skills.
- Four open-water dives with your instructor, down to 18 metres.
Who it is for
Anyone aged 10 or over who can swim and is reasonably fit. You will fill in a medical questionnaire; if you answer yes to any question, a doctor’s sign-off is needed before starting.
What to bring
- Swimwear, towel and sunscreen.
- Prescription glasses or contact lenses if you use them (prescription masks can be requested).
- Willingness to learn: we provide everything else.

All year. If you are joining a sailing week, you can combine it with your time on board by starting the online theory before you travel. When you finish, you receive your digital PADI certification.
