Few classrooms are as spectacular as the Belize Barrier Reef. The PADI Open Water course in Placencia combines theory, shallow-water practice and four reef dives, with turtles, rays and tropical fish.
What you do
- Theory sessions and exam with a PADI instructor.
- Skills practice in calm, shallow water.
- Four dives on the outer reef or the southern cayes.
- PADI certification valid to dive to 18 metres worldwide.
Who it is for
Anyone aged 10 or over who can swim and wants to learn to dive safely. A medical questionnaire must be completed before the course.
What to bring
- Swimwear, towel and reef-safe sunscreen.
- Prescription mask or contact lenses if you use them.
- Warm layer for the boat.
Best time
All year; the water is 26 to 29 °C. From February to June the sea is usually calmer and visibility is very good.
Good to know
You can do the theory online with PADI eLearning and complete only the practical part in Belize in two days. Do not fly within 18 hours of your last dive. Small groups of up to four students mean plenty of attention from your instructor.
