The Exumas combine crystal-clear water, tidal currents that feed the reefs and one of the oldest marine reserves in the Caribbean, the no-take Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. Diving runs from Great Exuma (George Town) or Staniel Cay.
What you can do
- Try dive for beginners, with an instructor in shallow water.
- Guided dives for certified divers: walls dropping into Exuma Sound, caves, blue holes and current cuts.
- Wildlife: reef and nurse sharks, turtles, eagle rays, groupers and lobsters.
Who it is for
Ages 10+ for the try dive. Current dives are for experienced divers. A medical questionnaire is required.
What to bring
- Certification and logbook if you are a diver.
- Reef-safe sunscreen and a towel.
For sailors
If you are sailing the Exumas, the center can arrange a pick-up from a nearby anchorage.
Best time
Year-round; the sea is calmest from November to June. Do not fly for 18 hours after diving.
Good to know
Groups are small and trips are timed with the tide, as current in the cuts changes a lot. If you are a beginner, the try dive takes place on a sheltered reef in calm water. Ask about combining your dive with a stop at Thunderball Grotto nearby.
Included
- Two-tank guided boat dive
- Tanks and weights
- Dive guide
- Water and snacks
