The Whitsunday waters and nearby reefs are a top destination for reef fishing. On this full-day trip from Airlie Beach, a local skipper takes you to the most productive grounds, always within the zones where the marine park allows fishing.
What you do
- An early departure from the marina with bait and tackle ready.
- Bottom fishing for species such as coral trout, red emperor, nannygai and trevally.
- Move between spots according to the tide and the bite.
- Have legal-size catches cleaned and filleted on return.
Who it is for
Beginners and experienced anglers, families with older children and groups of friends. The crew helps with rigs and techniques. We strictly follow minimum sizes, bag limits and the marine park’s green zones, where fishing is not allowed.
What to bring
A cap, polarised sunglasses, sunscreen, light long-sleeved clothing, non-slip shoes and a cool box if you want to take your fish home. Several restaurants in Airlie Beach will cook your catch.
Best time
All year round. From April to November bottom fishing is usually excellent and the weather is more settled. Note that seasonal closures apply to some reef species, and your skipper will plan the day around them.
Included
- Shared boat with skipper
