Balandra Beach is a protected natural area half an hour from La Paz, with a shallow lagoon, white dunes and the famous mushroom-shaped rock. On this Balandra kayak and snorkel tour you explore it in the calmest and most respectful way: by paddle.
What you do
- Kayak across the lagoon and along the mangroves, home to herons, rays and juvenile fish.
- Take a short walk up to a viewpoint over the bay.
- Snorkel the rocky reefs around Pichilingue, with angelfish, parrotfish and sea urchins.
- Enjoy a light lunch on the beach with water and soft drinks.
Who it is for
All levels, including families with children aged 6 and over. The kayaks are stable and the lagoon water is only waist-deep in many places. Access to Balandra is capped and runs on fixed time slots, which is why a guided departure is the easiest way to go.
What to bring
Swimwear, a rash vest, a hat, sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen (required in the protected area) and water shoes.
Best time
All year round. From October to June the weather is mild and dry; July and August are very hot, so early starts are best. We recommend going on a weekday to enjoy the beach with fewer people.
