The Sea of Cortez is one of the world’s great sportfishing destinations, and La Paz is its gateway. On this full-day private charter, a local captain takes you to the most productive banks and channels around Cerralvo or Espíritu Santo island.
What you do
- Leave early with live bait loaded at the harbor.
- Troll and bait-fish for species such as dorado (mahi-mahi), yellowfin tuna, wahoo, striped marlin and snapper.
- Move between spots depending on the season and what is biting that day.
- Have your catch filleted when you return to the dock.
Who it is for
Experienced anglers and beginners keen to learn; the captain and deckhand help with everything. We encourage catch and release for marlin and sailfish, and only keep fish allowed under local regulations.
What to bring
A cap, polarised sunglasses, sunscreen, light long-sleeved clothing, food and drinks. Several restaurants in La Paz will cook your catch for you.
Best time
Fishing runs all year. May to November is peak season for dorado, tuna and marlin; in winter there is more snapper and roosterfish, although north winds can limit trips. Ask us which species are running before you book.
