Piaynemo, in the Fam Islands, is Raja Ampat’s most famous view: dozens of jungle-covered limestone islets over turquoise water. It is the reachable alternative to Wayag, which lies much further away.
Typical itinerary
- Speedboat ride from Waisai or the Dampier Strait.
- Climb to the Piaynemo viewpoint up about 300 wooden steps.
- Visit the Telaga Bintang viewpoint over the star-shaped lagoon.
- Snorkel nearby reefs with hard and soft corals and fish of every colour.
- Stop at Arborek village or a beach, time permitting.

What to bring
Comfortable shoes, swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, cap, towel, dry bag and cash for the small community fees paid at each stop.
Best time
October to April, when the sea is calmer for speedboats. Distances are long: departure is early and return in the afternoon. The Raja Ampat marine park fee is not included.
Good to know: the speedboat ride can take over two hours each way depending on your starting point and sea conditions. Bring a light jacket for the wind and protect your camera from spray. If you want more freedom, the private speedboat lets you add extra stops.
