The PADI Open Water Diver is the first scuba certification and lets you dive to 18 metres with a buddy anywhere in the world. In Lefkada you train with a local dive center in sheltered coves with 20 metres or more of visibility.
What you do
- Theory through PADI eLearning or in the center’s classroom.
- Confined-water sessions to learn the core skills.
- Four open-water dives with your instructor among seagrass meadows, walls and small caves.
- Final exam and digital PADI certification.
Who it is for
Anyone aged 10 or over who can swim and has never dived, or who has done a try dive and wants to go further. A medical questionnaire must be completed before the course.
What to bring
- Swimwear, towel and warm layers for after diving.
- Prescription mask or contact lenses if you use them.
- Your own light gear if you have it (optional).
Best time
May to October. The water reaches 24-26 °C in August and September; in May and June it is a little cooler but visibility is good.
Good to know
The course takes 3-4 days depending on your pace. Doing the theory online before your trip saves vacation time. Do not fly within 18 hours of your last dive.
