The Strait of Bonifacio is one of the best diving areas in the western Mediterranean. Dive centers in Palau and La Maddalena dive the La Maddalena National Park and, on good days, cross to the Lavezzi reserve, known for its large and calm groupers.
What you can do
- Try dive for beginners, from the boat, to a maximum of 12 m.
- Guided dives for certified divers: granite walls, red gorgonians, wrecks.
- Lavezzi: groupers, dentex and barracuda on a morning double dive.
Who it is for
Ages 10+ for try dives. Certified divers should bring their card and logbook. A medical questionnaire is required before diving.
What to bring
- Diving certification (if you have one), swimwear and towel.
- A warm layer for the boat: the wind chills after the dive.
Best time
May to October. Water reaches 24-26 °C in August; in May and October use a 7 mm wetsuit. Lavezzi trips depend on the mistral.
Good to know
Dive trips usually leave in the morning and are back in port by lunchtime, so you keep the afternoon for the beach. Groups are small and the guide picks each site to match the divers’ experience.
