Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is protected by a law that limits light pollution in the Canary Islands, making it one of the world’s best places for stargazing. This excursion combines two magical moments: sunset and a starry night.
What the experience looks like
- Late-afternoon pickup in south Tenerife and a minibus ride through the volcanic landscape.
- Stops at viewpoints such as the Roques de García.
- Sunset above the sea of clouds, at over 2,000 metres.
- Stargazing session with a guide and telescope: constellations, planets and, depending on the moon, the Milky Way.
- Light dinner or a hot drink, depending on the option.
Who it is for
Curious people of any age, couples and families. It is not a hike: walks are short. Because of the altitude, people with breathing or heart conditions, or who are pregnant, should check with their doctor first.
What to bring
- Warm clothes: at night it can drop below 5 °C, especially in winter.
- Closed shoes.
- A camera and tripod if you want to photograph the sky.
Best time to go
All year round. Moonless nights offer the darkest skies. If clouds or wind make it impossible, the date is changed.
Included
- Minibus transport from south Tenerife
- Astronomy guide
- Telescope observation
- Hot drink and snack
