The deep waters of Vava’u lie close to shore, making Tonga a well-known sport fishing destination in the South Pacific. This private charter is ideal for small groups and anglers of every level.
How the trip works
- Morning departure from Neiafu on an equipped fishing boat.
- Trolling for blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, mahi-mahi and other pelagics, depending on the season.
- The skipper and deckhand set up the tackle and help you fight the fish.
- Catch-and-release policy for billfish; part of the catch may be kept for eating.
Who it is for
For experienced anglers and beginners who want to try game fishing. Groups of up to 4 anglers.
What to bring
Light clothing, a hat, polarised sunglasses, sunscreen, seasickness medication and food if lunch is not included in your option.
Best time
Fishing runs all year; marlin and wahoo are usually more active in the warmer months, while the southern winter brings good tuna and mahi-mahi fishing. Subject to sea conditions.
Good to know: boats carry safety gear and a radio, and the skipper chooses the fishing grounds according to the sea. Tell us in advance if you would like to try bottom fishing or jigging instead of trolling.
