The waters around Labuan Bajo are rich in pelagic and reef fish. This half-day private trip with a local captain and deckhand takes place in permitted areas of the Flores Sea, outside the no-take zones of Komodo National Park, where fishing is prohibited.
What you can catch
- Trolling for tuna, bonito, Spanish mackerel and mahi-mahi.
- Jigging and popping for giant trevally (GT) and other jacks.
- Bottom fishing for snapper and grouper in permitted zones.
How it works
The captain chooses the area according to tide and moon. Large fish are released and local rules are respected. If you wish, part of the catch can be grilled on board or at a harbor warung.
Who it is for
Experienced anglers after tropical species and beginners who want to try; also companions who just come to enjoy the sea and the sunset.
What to bring
- A cap, polarised sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Your own jigging gear if you are keen (tackle is provided on board).
- Seasickness tablets if you are prone.
Best time to go
April to November, with calmer seas. Afternoon trips combine fishing with sunset over the islands. Catches cannot be guaranteed, but the crew know the local grounds well and adapt the technique to what is biting that day.
Included
- Private boat with captain and deckhand
- Rods, reels and lures
- Water, soft drinks and fruit
- Hotel pickup in Labuan Bajo
