Diving for the first time in Komodo is a privilege: pristine coral reefs, turtles, colorful fish and, with luck, a manta. This try dive, in the style of PADI Discover Scuba Diving, leaves by boat from Labuan Bajo for calm sites sheltered from the current.
How it works
- A simple briefing and skills practice in shallow water.
- Two dives with the instructor beside you, to a maximum of 12 metres.
- Lunch on board between dives and time to snorkel.
- Return to Labuan Bajo in the afternoon.
Who it is for
Beginners aged 10 or over who can swim. Before diving you fill in a medical questionnaire; if you answer yes to any question, a doctor’s approval is needed. Very small groups, usually one or two students per instructor.
What to bring
- Swimwear, towel and reef-safe sunscreen.
- Prescription glasses if needed (prescription masks may be available).
- Cash for park fees unless you add them.
Best time to go
April to November. If you enjoy it, you can continue to the Open Water course and the first dive may count towards it. You should not fly within 24 hours of diving: bear this in mind with your flight out of Labuan Bajo.
Included
- Dive instructor
- 2 introductory dives
- Full scuba equipment
- Lunch, water and snacks on board
