Boat rental without a licence in Lipari is the freest and most affordable way to discover the island from the sea. These are boats of 5 to 6 metres with low-power engines, easy to handle and designed for coastal cruising.
What you do
- A hands-on briefing on driving, anchoring and safety before you leave.
- A map of recommended coves: the white beaches of Porticello, the Pietralunga sea stacks or Canneto.
- Swim and snorkel wherever you like, at your own pace.
- In good weather, and once you feel confident, a short hop to the northern coves of Vulcano.
Who it is for
Couples, families and friends who want independence. You need no qualification, only to be over 18 and follow the rules: stay within 6 nautical miles of the coast and respect the buoyed swimming areas. If you would rather not drive, you can add a skipper.
What to bring
Swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, a hat, food and drinks. Fuel is not included and is paid on return according to use, which is usually modest for these small engines.
Best time
May to October. Choose days with little wind; if the sea turns rough, your rental is moved at no cost. Book ahead in August.
