The PADI Open Water course in Lipari is the world’s most widely recognised scuba qualification, and learning it in the Aeolian Islands is a treat: volcanic walls, black sand seabeds and summer visibility that often exceeds 25 metres.
How the course works
- Theory online before your trip or with your instructor at the dive center.
- Two shallow-water dives to practise the core skills.
- Four open-water dives, to a maximum of 18 metres.
- A PADI certification valid for life, anywhere in the world.
What you will see
Groupers, octopus, moray eels, nudibranchs and seagrass meadows, as well as lava formations and, at some sites, volcanic gas bubbles rising from the seabed.
Who it is for
Anyone aged 10 or over who can swim and wants to dive independently. If you have already done a try dive, you can carry on into the course. You will fill in a standard medical questionnaire and, in some cases, need a note from your doctor.

Swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen and your own mask if you have one. All other equipment is included.
